Hop on the UB1 bus to Howtown and join the Ullswater Way, following the shoreline south.
This section of the route is particularly scenic, with quiet bays, open lake views and the surrounding fells rising up around you.
The path gently weaves along the edge of the lake, offering plenty of places to pause and take it all in. It’s a relaxed, enjoyable walk that feels a world away from the busier parts of the Lakes.
As you approach Glenridding, the landscape opens out and the village comes into view great place to stop for a drink, a bite to eat, or simply rest by the water. From here, you can hop on the Ullswater Steamer from Glenridding and enjoy a scenic ride across the lake back to Aira Force, Howtown or Pooley Bridge… it’s a perfect, car-free way to round off the route.
Please check the Ullswater ‘Steamer’ timetable and our current bus timetable. Also, remember that you can buy combined bus and Ullswater ‘Steamer tickets’ on board our buses!
