How One Community Bus is Easing Congestion and Connecting Rural Lives

A recent ITV News video shares the inspiring story of how SITU brought together local residents, businesses and others in the Ullswater Valley to launch the Hopper Bus, a community‑run service designed to reduce car journeys and better connect residents and visitors alike.

Our grassroots initiative is tackling two challenges at once: easing traffic congestion in our valley with its popular visitor locations, and the need to reduce pollution and carbon emissions.  We aim to do this by improving transport options for everyone, so that everyone can get around the valley without a car.  Community‑run schemes like the Hopper Bus show how local passion and cooperation can help improve liveability and the attractiveness of a location, while also strengthening links between villages, attractions and essential services.
